Design and produce four flagpoles with CCTV integration

The British Normandy Memorial was commissioned to honour the 22,442 soldiers under British command who died on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy in the summer of 1944. The Memorial, based in Ver-sur-Mer, took around 5 years to complete and was fully completed by Autumn 2020. The Memorial was officially opened on the 77th anniversary of D-Day, Sunday 6th June 2021, by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Normandy Memorial Trust. The official opening from Prince Charles took place by video link due to the current travel restrictions with a small group in attendance including 97-year-old British Normandy veteran, David Mylchreest.

The Normandy Memorial Trust requested four bespoke flagpoles to be placed in the Memorial Court and surround a centerpiece sculpture, a powerful D-Day depiction created by David Williams-Ellis. Two of these flagpoles needed to have CCTV camera integration and the exposed, coastal location of the site needed to be taken into account when considering the most suitable materials.

In addition, the most suitable material options were carefully considered and aluminium was chosen to provide longevity and ensure the flagpoles looked their best for many years to come.
