Harrisons were recently engaged by their client, Harrods, to install a replacement 20m flagpole on the roof of the iconic building on Brompton Road in central London. Initially Harrisons worked closely with the appointed structural engineering consultants for Harrods to choose an appropriate material for the flagpole and determine how this new flagpole could be installed onto the base elements from the original flagpole that had been storm damaged and removed. Designs and wind loadings were submitted by ourselves along with detailed investigative surveys and inspections undertaken to test the suitability of the original fixings within the structure of the building.

Constructed from stainless steel the new 20m tapered flagpole included a specially designed revolving truck with double halyard concealed within a traditional white capped top, stainless steel cleats and specialist halyards to ensure a long service life.
The installation of the pole, undertaken by Harrisons, involved significant challenges including night works, the partial closure of Brompton Road and a complex crane lift due to location and underlying pavement and road infrastructure.
Whilst leading this project Harrisons were supported by exceptional partners and the client’s property consultants and engineers to ensure the project was delivered to the satisfaction of all concerned.
