Flag of the Month – July

Endorsed by the Flag Institute, the aim of Historic County Flags Day is to have as many county flags flying across Great Britain as possible on one day, 23rd July, to mark the nation’s historic counties. As the UK’s leading flag manufacturer with a wide range of flags, including county flags, we are delighted to take part.  

The Durham County flag was created by James Moffat and his twin daughters Katie and Holly in 2013 as part of a design a flag competition. Durham was the last county in northern England without a flag. The flag design incorporates the county’s historic colours of blue and gold and the Cross of St Cuthbert. 

The flag was first unfurled at Durham Cathedral. The unfurling was attended by Susan Snowden, the Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, Councillor Pauline Charlton the Chairman of Durham County Council, the Mayor of Darlington and the Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove, Dean of Durham Cathedral. The flag was blessed by the Dean. After the unfurling the flag was hoisted from the top of the Cathedral by Katie and Holly Moffatt. 

This month it was the turn of Account Manager Kelly Miller to hoist the flag.  

Kelly is County Durham born and bred so was the ideal choice. She lives a few minutes away from our offices in Newton Aycliffe with her family and is very proud of her heritage. 

Kelly’s role as Account Manager means she is a flag and flagpole expert. She spends her days helping customers find their ideal flag or flagpole. When you call us to order your County flag you will more than likely be speaking to Kelly.
