Description
Antigua & Barbuda flag
The Antigua and Barbuda flag was adopted in 1967 following a competition entered by more than 600 local people. Sir Reginald Samuel was the winning artist.
The flag has a red background with an inverted triangle pointing down to the centre of the bottom of the flag. The bottom of the inverted triangle is white, with a blue band on top of it. The top part of the inverted triangle is black, with a rising sun centred on the band.
The red symbolises energy, the black represent the African ancestry of the people of Antigua and Barbuda and the blue signifies hope and the Caribbean Sea. The bands of colour (black, yellow, blue and white) symbolise the soil, sun, sea and sand. The seven points on the rising sun represent each of the six parishes and the island of Barbuda.
Fabric choice
Knitted polyester – This is the most common flag fabric. Your flag will be digitally printed onto 115gsm quality knitted polyester.
Handsewn – Giving an extra touch of quality to your flagpole our handsewn flags are meticulously appliqued using 155gsm woven polyester by our team of seamstresses based in the UK. A handsewn flag is an investment so we would recommend adding anti-fray to help prolong the life of your flag. It provides extra protection to the hem to prevent fraying.
Eco-friendly option
Eco-friendly flag – This revolutionary fabric is made from recycled plastic items such as PET bottles and industrial polyester waste which has been melted down into chips, then spun into yarn that is knitted to form a material. It has the same durability, strength and versatility of its knitted polyester equivalent but with a much lower environmental impact. We are the first UK supplier to offer an eco-friendly option rather than the standard polyester flags made from virgin plastic.
Anti-fray
An anti-fray netting can be added to your knitted polyester or handsewn flag to help prolong the life of your flag. It provides extra protection to the hem to prevent fraying
A handsewn flag is an investment so we would recommend adding anti-fray.
